Chambers Global 2016 is out: Afriwise Consult garners not less than 7 individual rankings

Chambers Global 2016, published by London based Chambers and Partners is a legal directory that ranks business lawyers from around the world, including in Africa as a whole and individual countries in Africa. Afriwise has leading lawyers listed under the Africa Wide section for both the categories Corporate /M&A (band 3) and Projects (band 3) and as foreign experts in Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi. Afriwise is the only firm that has two individuals recognized as leading foreign experts in Tanzania. For the Democratic Republic of Congo, Afriwise is the only out of two firms having two individuals recognized as leading foreign experts. These rankings underline the strengths of Afriwise Consult in these two countries. According to Chambers Global, Steven De Backer “is very professional, technically and commercially strong and brings clear leadership” and peers have “a lot of respect for his work”. Further, according to the directory, Olivier Binyingo is hailed by peers as “young, bright and intelligent”. Chambers Global further states about Steven De Backer that he “has notable experience across a number of African jurisdictions”, “he advises major international clients on corporate, projects and energy matters”, “he is noted for his understanding of local regulatory matters” and that he “has a wealth of experience representing clients on corporate transactions throughout the continent”. About Olivier Binyingo, Chambers Global further remarks that he has a “wide-ranging expertise advising clients on doing business across the continent”, “he has experience working on labour, corporate, tax and mining matters” and that he “is experienced in assisting clients with a broad range of cross-border matters in the corporate and projects sectors.” These rankings, in one of the most important legal directories, are very unique for a multi-disciplinary firm, consisting of not only lawyers but also other consultants and advisers specialized in important issues such as risk management, market entry, anti-corruption, business analysis and advisory and project management. We’re clearly on the right track, building a new type of firm that is most relevant for corporations that operate in African economies. We’re pleased that Chambers continues to recognise our legal strengths while our platform and our people have so much more to offer. Finally, we also congratulate our Afriwise Community members who are active in the legal space and have been listed as leading individuals in their respective countries.
